Re: Post dogs on Point!!!!
Beautiful dogs everyone. I don't care what breed it is, a dog on point is a piece of living art!

Tico pointing a grouse this afternoon (1/19/2015)
After the flush and shot. I think she was annoyed with me for taking the picture.

Re: Post dogs on Point!!!!
Wish I had a picture of it...
Sunday we did our last hunt of the year. There was a pheasant hiding in a completely buried culvert in the middle of the property in the bottom of a deep abandoned short section of irrigation ditch. The dog was down in the ditch with her head all the way in the culvert on point and completely hidden in tall grass. I was tracking her on the GPS collar and was right on top of her, even stepped over her several times and couldn't find her. The grass was laying flat over the ditch and I had no idea there even was a ditch there. Finally I was on my hands and knees pushing grass with my hands and spotted the little bit of orange duck tape on the antenna tip that was about 1/2" over the top of the ditch.
I walked over the top of the culvert stomping my feet to flush the bird out the other side. Of course it was a hen, would have loved to reward her with a retrieve after that point!

Great looking pup! I have felt for a long time that the Vizsla's are the best kept secret in the pointing dog world for the hunter.

Re: Post dogs on Point!!!!
He has bad knees, so walking miles is out of the question. I took him on a preserve hunt this season, he got some awesome pictures from a different perspective, since he wasn't trying to shoot, or handle a dog. He just wanted to see how it all worked.NEhomer wrote:That first photo of you and your pointer is just splendid. Nice snag non-hunting dad.
Re: Post dogs on Point!!!!
I feel for your dad. Bad knee's has really slowed me down too. Been walking all I can with the boy's out back, tons of land, but if I take it easy a half hr does me in. Can't afford horse back stuff anymore. In that first photo did he get the bird coming up and you shooting it?

He's had 8 knee surgeries, including a total reconstruction and three replacements, he's one of the toughest guys I know.DonF wrote:I feel for your dad. Bad knee's has really slowed me down too. He didn't get the rise and shot, unfortunately. I should have asked for a few shooting shots. Pretty much everything he took was of Turbo.

I've been trying to find woodcock for the past week and while we haven't found any so far we have found some grouse. A couple pictures from this weekend.
