Ramps to get onto tailgate...

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions or experience with folding or telescoping ramps that will work for getting an old dog up on and down from a 3/4 ton pickup tailgate. Thanks.

I would think they would be more trouble than they were worth. I always lifted them up with no problem.

Yeah, Ezzy, I had always lifted them up without a problem, too. But things change.....

Thanks, Neil, I have checked this link out, but almost all the reviews are for either cars or SUVs, and I am wondering if anyone has used any of these successfully with a pickup that is probably a little higher than most SUVs.

Get a piece of 2x12 and cover it with outdoor carpet.

Not a folder or telescoping ramp but my dad, almost 80, uses his ramp from his training table. Has wheels on the bottom and two hooks that drop into the bed tailgate gap to secure it.

I have Labs, a bit heavy to lift. I have a Petsmart ramp. Works well off any tailgate and even reaches up to the holes of a topper rig. Ramps are better for dogs in the long run. The impacts of jumping up and especially down are hard on the joints.

Thanks. Which one? Telescoping, or folding? It can't be longer than 4 feet when collapsed.

I would look at ones offered at Amazon, and read reviews. I haven't bought one yet ( but it's on the list) and find those reviews helpful as far which ones are heavy, or have dangerous sharp edges, or durability, etc.

Most of the models I looked at on Amazon have multiple reviews so it isn't hard to rule certain ones in/out.

I have this one and liked it very much. Now I have a new Ford with the tailgate step and am working on the pups using it to get in.

If you have a truck supply box, I would suggest raising it so you can easily slide the the ramp under it. The wedge at the top of the ramp wll keep it close.

And when using, make sure to secure it to the tailgate or truck bed so it doesn't slide or fall off. That'll throw your training off.

Telescoping. I have a training buddy that made a folding one out of 2x4's and half inch plywood.
