When I take my gwp (6.5 months ) on walks around a trail, he would pick up plastic bottles and chews on it. I give him the command "leave it" and he would drop it sometimes.
My question is; will that affect him when he hunts if there's a plastic bottle laying on the ground?
I sometimes correct him with a little shock with the e collar if he grabs it.
Do you let your dog chew on things during off leash

Once your dog gets interested in birds , he will care less about plastic bottles etc. Time to get into some serious bird work. (6.5 months). Start with hard flying pigeons if you don't have wild birds near. If you are a newbie to pointing breed training, get a programme.
Don't overdue using that e collar when a sharp jolt with the check cord will do. Don't be too gentle - no "sometimes about it. Save it for what will be important in the future. I never use an e collar if I can get my hands on the dog.
(When lounging around I let my dog chew on a pet store bone - not rawhide. Especially necessary if pup is teething , which yours may be still be doing at 6.5 months.)

I have never figured out how to stop a dog from testing a road apple from any distance where I can't reach down and touch the dog!
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!
