Brittany Color and Breeding
Hey there - I’m relatively new to Brittanys and had a quick question about breeding and the color of the offspring. Without bringing French brittanys into the mix, is there a way to predict the color of the litter?
If both of the parents are Orange and white, then will all the pups be orange and white?
If one of the parents is Orange/white and the other is White/liver, is the color of the pups completely random?
Is the roan pattern also random?
Thanks for the help and please forgive my ignorance.

I am unable to help with your questions but will bounce you back up top and hopefully someone may have some insight for you.
Re: Brittany Color and Breeding
2 O/W parents will produce O/W offspring
2 L/W parents will produce L/W offspring
1 L/W parent & 1 O/W parent will produce random number O/W & random number of L/W (occasional tri color-not very often-I've never had one)
I've never bred to roans so I don't know what happens there
I've never bred to Frenchies but I think You'll end up with some black noses

If a O/W dog came from a breeding of O/W & L/W wouldn't it be possible if the O/W pup was bred to another O/W that they could throw a L/W pup? That L/W gene could pop up.deseeker wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 2:44 pm2 O/W parents will produce O/W offspring

No, it is not possible. The orange is recessive so an orange dog cannot have a liver gene or it would be liver. Liver dogs can carry the orange gene so it is possible to breed two liver dogs and if they both carry the recessive orange gene they will have a mixed litter - 25% odds of an orange pup.Dakotazeb wrote: ↑Fri Dec 03, 2021 9:02 amIf a O/W dog came from a breeding of O/W & L/W wouldn't it be possible if the O/W pup was bred to another O/W that they could throw a L/W pup?
