Yeah, you're right on the breed!
It's all melted now, Sharon and we reached at least 59 degrees last week. Spring is here and the daffodils are blooming! I love this time of year.

What do they do with these beasts? It doesn't seem that they would be a high meat producer, as there are plenty of other cattle specifically bred for this purpose. Milking them would be risky, and probably not result in much. They are certainly interesting to see, but what do they do?

Re: Snow Days
My family used to raise these cattle along with Texas Longhorns, and we would sell some beef locally. Over time we have downsized our herd, now only raising for family beef. They are multi-purpose cattle and can be used for beef, milk (very high butterfat content), ornamental, and draft purposes. The beef is very lean, and lower in cholesterol than traditional beef. We have never milked ours, and I'd doubt the breed is used on a commercial scale for either beef or milk. The horns on these beasts can reach over 7 ft from tip to tip.Steve007 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:22 amWhat do they do with these beasts? The Ankole-Watusi breed is more gentle than you would think. We've had some with bad temperaments, but you're bound to find those with any breed. Our herd queen thinks she's our pet dog.
