Hi everyone,
I am looking for recommendations for a GSP breeder, and the goal is to get a pup in the next 2-3 years. I currently have a 2-year-old GSP, and we are training for the NAVHDA gun dog test. My 2-year-old is a mixture of Standing Stones and Willow Creek Kennel.
I am looking for a dog to test and hunt with, in addition to the dog being a family pet. I would like to get involved with field trials and hunt tests with this next dog also. I am located in Wisconsin and would be willing to drive anywhere. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Re: GSP Breeders
I have found that there can be a big difference among GSP breeders and their dogs relative to range and purpose. Breeders focused on field trials, breed for big running dogs. Breeders focused on family, hunting and hunt tests etc., normally will produce dogs that are a bit calmer, easier to handle(IMO) but normally don't have that 1000 yd range. Most don't do both well but that's just my opinion. I also think some prices for pups are getting a bit out of hand for the quality of dogs produced. Nothing wrong with the dogs per se but some breeders advertise a lot and you can get a pup as good/better for less cost...from breeders the masses aren't familiar with. For that reason, I would avoid breeders active on YT.....again just my opinion. YMMV.
If I wanted to raise some eyebrows and was going to pick a well known GSP breeder out of my hat whose dogs consistently do well at a national level in just about everything, I would take a hard look at Odyssey Kennels in Missouri. They have produced outstanding....HOF caliber dogs. If you like your current dog, you might also consider just staying with Willow Creek. Chrest Kennels near Rochester, MN is a smaller breeder that produces quality hunting dogs that do well in NAVHDA. They also train. There are some old threads on here you can do a search for and get other names of breeders from, as well. Good luck. Nothing better than looking for a new pup.

Re: GSP Breeders
Willow creek has some interesting breedings now. They brought in some outside studs and kept pups out of them to open up their program a little. I bought one from them a year and a half or so ago as the stud was of horseback trial lineage and that’s the trial game I wanted this one to play, and he is absolutely killing it right now in puppy stakes with a top pro and he wants to keep him on his string. With that added in you could get the hunt test and field trial type dog.
Chrest Kennels in MN is also one I would look into. I have talked to Dustin and he has a lot of nice breedings planned for the next year or 2. He’s also mixing in some of that field trial blood to the hunt test type dog and it’s working well for them. They would be one of the ones I’d take a hard look at right now if I was looking for a pup.
If you like dogs that cover more ground and run big both those kennels can provide that now, and they can also be easily reigned in. But if you want big running firepower, I’d look at the NGSPA website and keep looking at futurity registered breedings. Chicoree gsps, freight train gun dogs, blue dawn kennel, lone star kennel, uodibars, high standing kennel, all n, hi-n, hi-tailyn all produce horseback field trial gsps, but this may be more run than you’re looking for.
