tri-tronics collar

tri-tronics collar

Postby firstchoicehardwood » Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:42 am

I just bought a tri-tronics collar for my brittany and I am having trouble with the collar slipping down his neck once he starts going. It has the beeper on it too and if I tighten it anymore it seems like I could choke him. Is this normal for the e-collar with a beeper to lean one way? It is not leaning far but the manual says the beeper should be centered on the back of his neck. I want to make sure its not going to make him go deaf. I appreciate anyones help or suggestions.

When the beeper is slightly tilted the receiver must be slightly off as well. Try repositioning both along the length of the strap.

I tighten the collar near the top of the neck. If it slides it will only slide about half-way down the neck and still functions well. If you don't trim off the excess plastic at the end off the strap the extra weight tends to move it slightly to one side.

When hunting, heavy cover tends to move the collar around some. I rotate it back when necessary. If you're worried about the dogs hearing use the beeper in the silent/point mode or when using in the run/point mode shut it off remotely with the transmitter and just turn it on periodically to locate the dog.

I recently bought my first e-collar, a tri-tronics G2 Pro 500, and also picked up their beeper collar. I've hunted with dogs with beeper collars, and while they are a great benefit in heavy cover, they gave me a headache. I can only imagine how aggravating they are to the dog wearing them.

I have decided to reserve the beepers use to hunts in heavy cover, and then to be turned on remotely only when needed.

E-collars are worn pretty tight. I always try to get first hand, face to face advice from someone who knows and can actually demonstrate in person, when it comes to something like this. It's difficult to explain how tight a collar should be in print.

Good luck with your dog.

I called Tri-Tronics when I first got my e-collar. The kind ladt rep told me to get it as tight as possible without choking the dog. She said if it seemed tight enough, to go one more hole and that would do it. Watch the dog. If the dog gasps or hacks, back off one hole.

The advice has worked. I did what she said, and my Brit hasn't gasped once with it. She ran all afternoon yesterday with one on an drank fine with it on. I have the short electrodes on it for her thin coat.

They do need to be snugly. The dog will let you know if it's too tight.

This year I purchased a G3 upland model,up to 3 collars with beepers. My question is can you get an old dog used to a beeper. my 5 year old still thinks it's a whistle and comes back. I would like to make it work in cutover, but I am afraid it might pull her off birds if she pointed and it starts. She leaves and comes right back if I leave it on where it beeps all the time.

I would keep it on all the time until the dog gets used to it.

eth - I believe you can select a different tone on that model. Did you try that?

it sounds like you do not have the collar on snug enough
When putting on the e collar you need to pull the strap through the ring snug up to the neck and carry over to the snuggest hole it will fit to with out wrenching it

if you do not snug up your collar properly you will not get the correct contact for the e collar
the collar also needs to be high up on the neck also
I see all to many people who do not put their collars on right from way to loose to low on the neck

I'm still just trying to get her used to it. Yes it has different tones but they all bother her. I am going to try it on a lower volume.

You may start off putting it beeeping near a room and feed her while it is making noise and bring it in closer and closer

I have one dog that just shuts down at loud beeper noises...she never was balked blinked or cared about gun shots but loud beepers and cell phones she trembles at the sound of them

When I intro'd my dog to the beeper I convered the speaker hole with a piece of duct tape to muffle the sound. Then I started poking holes in the tape to increase the level of the Sound. I seldom hunt with them but in heavy cover they are great.

Don't run him with a tight collar or the points can wear a hole in his neck. Reposition the beeper so with the collar at the correct tightness, the beeper naturally sits on top. The weight of the ecollar will keep it there once you have adjusted it for the dog.
