springer spaniel

Post by deke » Tue May 14, 2013 5:36 pm

I have finally narrowed down my dog search, and landed on a field bred english springer spaniel. Now I am looking for recommendations for breeders. Do you know a very good breeder? Anyone know anything about Hellfire springers, they seem very good from what I have seen online? Distance is really not a factor, I will ship the pup if I cant drive there in a day or two. Any advice would be awesome, Thank you in advance.

Todd Agnew at Craney Hills Kennel has a good program for springers.

I see you are in western Washington. There is a club, Western Washington English Springer Spaniel Club, that would be a good start. One of the members Jeff Miller DVM has a practice in Rochester. Jeff is a very active judge and handler. I had one of his Pel Tan Roly pups a few years ago, She was a very nice dog, I imagine Jeff's dogs have just gotten better since Roly. I also highly recommend joining a field trial spaniel club if possible. Even if you never trial you will see how nice a trial dog works and can get help if needed.

Sureshot - Very good advice, I just emailed them. I don't plan on trialing the dog, I don't have enough time. But the advice would be priceless.

CDN_Cocker - Flushingstar is on my shortlist as of now. Seems like he has some really nice dogs.

I'm real new to this gun dog thing but I'm waiting on a field bred springer pup from an upcoming litter from Bird Crazy Gun Dogs out of Wisconsin. Steve and Amy are very nice and honest people. I don't have the pup yet so I can't comment on the quality of the dog but it is coming from FC Lighthouse Finn, which at least to a rookie like me seems like a very impressive dog.

I can't say enough good things about Jim. I love my pup.

I met Todd at a Hickox seminar in 2005. Good guy with a nice line of dogs. I think he still guides in KS.

Not sure where you're at, but this place has excellent dogs. The BEST pheasant dog I ever had was a Springer from a descendant of one of their dogs.
