It is with great pleasure that I announce that my dog Onpoint's Tuff Act To Beat "Toby" has earned his Championship title. He finished over the weekend in Sarasota Florida professionally handled by Patrick Thomas of Ft. Myers FL.
If you show your field trial dogs, you may have run into the same situations that I have. Toby was only shown between April and September. It usually took at least 2 months just to get him in show shape...i.e. fat and smooth. Every show my handler would tell me to fatten him up and stop running him. This was to have him blend in better with the male vizslas on the show circuit. After chosing Toby for Winners Dog, the judge spoke to my handler saying.... "I know skinny dogs and I know field dogs and this dog isn't skinny, he is built to hunt". Can you believe it?! A sporting dog judge that knows sporting dogs!!
Toby needs only his retrieving points for both his FC/DC and AFC.

Congrats! We hope to show our young male to a DC (or pay someone to do it). We know it's going to be a tough road to hoe.
Good luck on those retrieving points! Hopefully they'll come this fall!

We have done something with nothing for so long we are now qualified to do everything with anything....

Big CONGRATS! It is tuff for a field quality dog in the ring to begin with, then add the ignorance of Judges that don't know what a properly conditioned Sporting dog should look like and it quite often will not matter how conformationally perfect a dog is, because they won't look like every other dog in the ring.
I get a kick out of the Judges that will really feel Dalin from one end to the other and obviously put more time into his inspection than the other dogs, look at him, look at him again, look at him some more and then dump him. They know he looks good, but just can't get over how different he looks from every other dog in the ring. I recently had a Judge tell me that "I could have" given Dalin Best of Breed from the Class, but they couldn't live with the way he carried his tail when he moved Cocky lil bugger, he is! Judge told me that otherwise, he was very well balanced, put together, really moved out and wanted to know all about his breeding. This Judge used to be a GSP Breeder!

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare.
