Re: LD info for GSP owners
Thanks for the link. I'll put it on Facebook later.
Couple of things that bother me. Will the GSPCA push LD testIng for CHIC? Will the testing ever be available from an objective source? Will anyone ever address the overall autoimmune factors of LD or, for that matter, the fact that there seems to be a rising incidence of low autoimmune dogs in the breed?
I will look into testing because I have heavy Rusty/Rex lines, but I wish they would inveatigate the disease more thoroughly.

Interesting...I know thru testing they have had a number of show line dogs test as carriers ad questions have been raised about the program..I was surprised, as I have not heard of and show line dogs being effected. (not saying there are not any). Because of this, immediate panic of placing or not breeding the dog if it turned up a carrier..So, I am sure that is what this article has come from.....

The first dogs that had it were bred from show lines.

When I was swabbing Star Doc Reynolds ask if I was getting it for AKC DNA when I said no,LD he said I thought only show lines carried it.

There is the history of the first documented afflicted AKC dogs.
After reading the original linked article a little more closely, I'm having a hard time accepting their numbers.

Because Katie was the person first to bring the disease into public view people think it is from show lines. But Katie was breeding heavily into field lines when this occurred...Of course it takes 2 carriers to produce effected dogs.

Re: LD info for GSP owners
My very first knowledge of the disease was from field lines from a dog here in TN. Very little to any show dogs in those pedigrees. They did have similar pedigrees to what Up N Adam was outcrossing to. If I had to put a stamp on it I would have told you it was "field trial lines" that most often carried this. BUT it is important to remember that some fantastic dogs sometimes are found to be carriers (of testable diseases) and we can point a bunch of fingers or we can test, and then rule it out, or breed it out which ever the case may be for our own lines.
(I do have some hesitation with the numbers in the article.)
