Be happy, laugh freely, and take lots of pics. They grow up incredibly fast!

That is an absolute BINGO!!!
A dog that loves you and respects you will want to be with you. If a bird dog WANTS to bewith oy, there is noendf to what it will be willing to do with you and for you.

After I had posted in the 15 words or less thread you had posted something very similar to what I posted just now about being their friend. I said to myself Ray G is spot on. Ray G you would have fit in with the guy's who took me into the gun dog world with the way I was taught . I agree with "most' everything you say. You make a lot of sense . You show these creatures that they are your friend and only want the best for them & you get them coming and the rest is easy !RayGubernat wrote:Max2 wrote:Be his best friend & he will be yours !

Re: New pup
Raising a pup is the same as raising kids or coaching sports, you can't always be a friend. Making the puppy think every thing good comes from you while he is young and impressionable will go a long ways later in his life................Cj
Re: New pup
This is also a fact & sometimes you have to come down on them. But... I think a lot of mistakes made could have been avoided had we "humans" not gotten frustrated when pup is not getting what we are trying to teach them. Like everything in life- -keep a cool head & if things are not going well, try not to get frustrated . Take a brake.cjhills wrote:Raising a pup is the same as raising kids or coaching sports, you can't always be a friend. Be firm, fair and consistent. And fun, too!
I've also found that letting them sleep under the covers with you can help. YMMV.
