Tail length?
Tail length?
Any thoughts on the length of the tail on this pup?

Can you delete that photo and post again with a resized one?
Re: Tail length?
Maybe a little long for a Brittany but not something to be concerned about.

Re: Tail length?
AKC breed standard is 4 inches or less---unless you are going to show your britt don't worry about it, they don't smell birds with their tail

It was all I could do to post this pic!shags wrote:Can you delete that photo and post again with a resized one?

I agree, hasn't effected his training, I don't think I would have docked it to this length would have left it full! :roll:deseeker wrote:AKC breed standard is 4 inches or less---unless you are going to show your britt don't worry about it, they don't smell birds with their tail

Re: Tail length?
It is quite long for a Brittany. I personally like a little longer tail on my Britts. I don't really care for the bob-tailed ones. The tail on my current Britt is about 4.5" So to a degree it comes down to personal preference. Your Britt is quite a bit beyond the standard but I wouldn't worry about it at this point.
For those having a difficult time viewing the pics due to size. Right click on the photo and select "open image in new tab". It should open a new tab on your browser, click on the new tab and the photo will be normal size.

Re: Tail length?
In trials, I never liked to be matched with a Brittany. My dogs could never be sure if the Brit was on point or not, and would sometimes not back.
Tail length?
In my opinion that is to long for a britt.
Re: Tail length?
Longer than what you expect to see on a Brit, but I wouldn't give it too much thought.
I know one GSP breeder that intentionally leaves them longer than what one sees typically. He says you can see what the dog's thinking/feeling better that way. I have to agree with him. GSP's/GWP's are "supposed" to be docked at 40% or thereabouts, but I think 50-60% is the right balance. Just my .02.

Re: Tail length?
Better a little too long than too short is how I roll. Tails are a great source of information as a dog works.
Re: Tail length?
Thanks for the input.
Re: Tail length?
A little long from what I'm used to but he is doing fine.
